Make a List & Check it Twice: Staying Organized through the Holidays

We are deep into the holiday season and as much magic is in the air...so is the chaos! In all the hustle and bustle this month brings, it's easy to mismanage your Christmas Shopping List.

We've all been there. Where you think you have everyone covered and you realize last minute that you've forgotten someone or something. It's total chaos!

Here's a few tips from the Chaos Managed team on how you can avoid overspending, manage your holiday gifting chaos seamlessly, and lessen that holiday stress with the right organizational process.

  1. Make a List & Check it Twice!

Just like Santa, I love a good list! It is essential when trying to organize thoughts, ideas, and tasks. This is why I love our Chaos Managed Holiday Gift Tracker printable. It helps me organize my Gift List recipients with what I'm gifting them, how much it is, and then my favorite part, a place to check DONE!

Seeing who you have to gift for and setting a price point really helps keep your brain on track without blowing out your budget with last minute decisions. Now there is some wiggle room in this. I might add a generic gift term like "Brr Basket", and know I might find a few deals during holiday sales, but what I don't budge on is the budgeted amount I'm willing to spend.

To help with gifting decision fatigue, consider giving the same gift to multiple recipients. This streamlines your holiday shopping, helps you stay on budget, and limits your time in stores or online where impulse buying temptations are high.

  2. Avoid Hiding Gifts and Holiday Items

Hiding gifts in multiple places is NEVER a good idea! 9 times out of 10, you will forget something and realize it too late. Not to mention the hustle and bustle of the season will always lead to misplacing something which leads to last minute impulse buying. Exactly what we are trying to avoid.

Instead, find a place in your home where you can place all your Christmas items where you can see them. For families with smaller kids, think about utilizing bins for each person so you can efficiently use your space and know where each person's presents are at all times.

  3. Keep Wrapping Supplies Close

How many times have you sat down to start wrapping gifts and you realize you are out of tape or can't find scissors? So frustrating!

You can easily set up a wrapping kit or station near your stored gifts so they can easily be pulled out when you are ready to start wrapping. Whether it's a rolling cart, a storage bin, or bag. Stock your wrapping supplies now, so whenever you decide to wrap, you are set! And don't forget to set a Wrapping Appointment in your calendar. This is a night where you shut everything down and wrap your gifts. You can make it a one-time appointment with yourself, or a weekly wrap session. Either way, block off time in your calendar to get this done BEFORE Christmas Eve so you can focus on enjoying the evening.

  4. Stay Consistent

Whatever system works for you, stay consistent! Keep a record of your purchases, keep your Gifting Tracker out so you can see it daily, and don't forget to step away from all the chaos to really enjoy this time of year with family and friends!

With the right organization, you can lessen your stress this season and give yourself some peace! Because the best gift you can give this season is a happy, present version of you!
